More Than
This history of Barnby-in-the-Willows has been produced as a living internet site, to be updated as further research is carried out, or to be added to as events unfold in the future. The site map provides links through the centuries of Barnby-in-the-Willows history. A central theme throughout this history is the Church, dedicated to All Saints’, as this is the oldest building within the village and has seen many changes within Barnby. I have utilised information from a wide variety of sources including a large array of books, Victorian directories and newspaper articles. However, the main source of information was from the residents of Barnby-in-the-Willows, both verbal and from previous work by village members. If you notice any inaccuracies or have further historical facts please let me know so that the details can be updated. The site was designed to be viewed using Internet Explorer with a screen resolution of 800 X 600 pixels.
22/23 June 2002: A photograph of each bell in the tower of All Saints' Church was added to Barnby Bells. A photograph of Dark Lane in 1962, showing two World War One veterans, is available on the Living Memory page. Examples of graffiti left in the lead of the tower roof in the 19th century can be seen on the All Saints Church page. The All Saints' Church Guide is now available from the downloads, below, or the All Saints Church page.
15 June 2002: Following the Golden Jubilee celebrations the downloads, below, now include a 360 degree panorama from the tower of All Saints' Church, Barnby-in-the-Willows. Images of the original parish register, dating from 1597 are available at: Barnby-in-the-Willows. In addition, there are two 5 second video clips available of the second and fifth bells being rung on the Barnby Bells page. The clips were taken in the belfry.
10 November 2001: Dovecote with the location of the Quaker burial ground.
28 October 2001: Dovecote with a photograph of Barnby Hall possibly taken in the late 19th or early 20th century.
2 September 2001: Living Memory with
the names of children in the village school photographs from 1937 and
1940.

details of William Mills, Walter Parish and additional commemorative
details.
22 July 2001: Living Memory with a photograph of the Willow Tree Inn and Front Street in, approximately, 1910.

The file (Bells.wav) is 334 Kb and lasts for 15.5 seconds. The first four
rounds were recorded inside the Church. The last four rounds were recorded
near the tower, outside the church.
